Interview with Mike Andersson from Cloudscape

Who are you?
Mike Andersson, lead vocalist of Cloudscape.

Myspace/website page? www.myspace.com/cloudscapemetal / www.cloudscape. se

How did you meet? Cloudscape was formed in 2001 by remaining members of a band locally known as “Doctor weird”. Cloudscape released the first album in January 2005 and have this far released 2 albums (second album released in June 2006 entitled “Crimson skies”). In August 2008 Cloudscape will release their third album to be entitled “Global Drama”.

What Kind of gear do you use? Drums, 2 guitars, Bass, Vocals, Keyboards (pre-recorded on stage)

Is there an album that inspired you to join a band? Far too many to mention but, well, Yngwie J. Malmsteens album called “Marching out” and “Whitesnakes “Slide it in” might have had something to do with it;).

What was the last album you bought? “Mercenary – Architect of lies” and “Yes – The Ladder”.

What do you think of downloading music? I think it’s an awesome way promotionally but, unfortunately there are far too many negative sides to this that really does hurt bands and the whole music industry. I really wish people bought the albums they’ll download that they like (some don’t but, far too many do). I love the internet except for this fact.

Who would you say was your personal biggest influence? David Coverdale, Yngwie J. Malmsteen, Hans Zimmer, Jon Anderson, etc etc etc

If you could trade places with another musician for a day who would it be and why? Possibly Russel Allen in Symphony X. Why? Well, it’s a great band and it would be cool to try some of their songs out…

If you weren't playing in a band, what do you think you'd be doing instead? I have no idea…Music is a way of life and passion for me…

Where do you think the best metal is coming from at the moment? Hmm, hard to say. Scandinavia does have a bunch of really cool bands so, at the moment I’ll say Scandinavia…my opinion might change in a few months…who knows…

What was the last live show you went to?(excluding your own) Nightwish in Gothenburg, November 2007. I’m a good friend with Anette…she’s doing some backing vocals on our second album by the way…

What do you have lined up next? Musically I am already composing music for the fourth Cloudscape album…as long as the song ideas comes naturally there’s no reason to wait;). Except for that we have a live show coming up in our hometown (Helsingborg) and Bloodstock after that so, we are slowly but surely preparing set lists in for the coming live shows as well.

And finally.....

Why should people check out your band? Hahahaha, I am a humble person and I don’t wanna brag…some people like us and some don’t but, people should check Cloudscape out if they are a metal fan of melodies and heaviness progressively spiced;). Our forthcoming album (Global drama) will be the heaviest and most aggressive album we’ve done this far…combined with some very atmospheric tunes as well;)
